Overview: The largest office furniture warehouse in Maryland, PVI had been investing in SEO from Blue Corona for nearly a year before deciding to invest in a fresh and modern website redesign.
Since used furniture was the company’s core business, it was important that the design update didn’t “price them out.” At the same time, the client was looking to reach multiple audiences—from price shoppers to people looking to outfit entire buildings with new furniture—right from the homepage. For this reason, the site need to be simple and easy to navigate with plenty of graphics to appeal to PVI’s wide audience of furniture shoppers.
From the backend side of things, PVI’s team requested a used-inventory showcase they could easily update in real-time.
Design Considerations: We steered away from the popular web 2.0 full stretch hero banners to make sure the redesign didn’t price out his bargain shopper audience. While some stock photography of new furniture was utilized, we also incorporated photos of PVI’s actual warehouse to offer a realistic portrayal of the company’s core business (the used furniture) while still appealing potential new furniture clientele.
While we wanted the website to convert well, we also wanted to focus on providing a user experience that showcased the competitive price points and availability of their furniture.
As with most of our recent designs, we opted to make PVI’s redesign fully responsive to accommodate an increasing number of mobile visitors as well Google’s mobile-friendly algorithm update.
Process: Since we had already been working with the client on the SEO-side for a while already, we were able to look at data from PVI’s existing site. Armed with this data, we were able to highlight his top priority as well as top performing pages into the design—making sure they were quickly and easily found.
We should also mention the research phase of the design process. Extensive competitor and industry analysis was performed to make sure we incorporated modern furniture design aesthetic and understood—overall—where the market was visualizing.
