Marketing in a Tough Economy
Today on the drive home from the office, I listened to a recording from Bruce Johnson’s chamber event several months ago. During his presentation, Bruce raised many good points, but two that seemed particularly relevant are:
- Too many small business owners let external factors determine their destiny and
- The (core) principles of marketing never change – even in a down economy
While I might disagree slightly with the second point – I think that many traditional views on marketing are dead – I couldn’t agree more with Bruce’s first point! Instead of worrying about the economy – something over which you have zero control – worry about something you can control – your advertising and marketing. Traditional advertising or advertising the way you thought of it 10 years ago might be dead, but the core principles are still the same.
Don’t allow external factors to prevent you from getting to your destination! Get your marketing system out of the closet , primed up and ready to go (don’t forget to measure and track your efforts!)! If you never had a system, it’s time to call someone like Bruce or Blue Corona!
