The more lines and the more complicated the code, the longer the website takes to respond.
That interactive banner you’ve always wanted? You can add half a second onto load time.
All those animations you’ve seen on other websites? Another half a second.
While adding one second onto your load time (the amount of time it takes for all of the information on a web page to appear) doesn’t seem like a lot, in the online world it’s the equivalent to 8,000 years.
The average user expects their website to load in under three seconds.
