3 Things You Can Do Right Now to Improve Your Local SEO
As a business owner looking to boost your company’s search rankings, it’s possible that local SEO is already something you’re familiar with. Or maybe you don’t know a thing about local SEO because you work with a company like ours who handles all of that stuff for you. Either way, here’s a quick refresher: local SEO is one of the major factors that dictates whether your business is found (or not) by consumers in your specific service area.
If you’d prefer for people in your service area to find your business when searching for your services (um, who wouldn’t?), there’s a whole long list of ways to make that happen— but let’s start with three of the easiest ways that you can boost your company’s local SEO right now.
1. Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
That’s hip kid lingo for, “Make sure you’ve got your information in order before you start making updates all around the internet!” The first thing you need to take a look at is the NAP—or Name, Address, Phone number—information on your website. Is this information accurate and up to date? If not, the first thing you want to do is update this to reflect your current name, address, and phone number.
Your next step will be to check any current listings your company has for NAP consistency. NAP consistency is when your company’s name, address, and phone number are listed the same way across the web, from your website to your social media profiles to directory listings (such as Google My Business, Yelp, etc.) and beyond.
When you look at these listings, is your NAP information correct? If not, you’ll have to take a few additional steps, all of which you can find by downloading our free NAP consistency eBook. It outlines exactly how to go about finding all of your listings and correcting any inconsistent information. Click on the image below for the free download, and start cleaning up those inconsistent NAP citations ASAP.
2. Start with Social Media
If you don’t have one already, now is the time to consider creating a Facebook page for your business. I know, I know, social media is confusing, and some industries don’t think that they’re “sexy” enough to be on Facebook. But I’ll tell you right now, that’s just not true! In fact, our team at Blue Corona provides social media marketing services for enough HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies to know that any industry can get engagement, followers, and even leads from social media.
But bringing it back to local SEO, Facebook Pages are basically free marketing tools that allow you to reinforce to Google’s search crawlers: where your business is located, what your hours are, and what services you provide.
Additionally, having an active Facebook page boosts your brand’s awareness! It increases users’ confidence in your business and gives them yet another place to leave you reviews, ask you questions, and see what your company is all about.
3. Don’t Forget About Directories
Being listed on directory sites is crucial for your company’s local SEO! These are additional ways to show Google’s search crawler’s what your company’s accurate NAP information is, so that you’ll be more likely to show up when users search for services in that specific area.
If you’re not in them already, a few directories to create free listings in include:
- Infogroup
- Citysearch
- Localeze
- Best of the Web
- Acxiom
- Insiderpages
- Factual
- Yelp
- YP (a.k.a. Yellow Pages)
- Superpages
- Foursquare
- Hot Frog
There are certainly other directories out there, but this is a solid list to begin with.
