Video Marketing for Remodelers: A Must for 2018 and Beyond
If your’e a smart remodelers, you understand that your website can and should be your #1 source of new leads and business. And remodelers with video content on their website have a significant edge over their competitors.
Every year, we use our proprietary SEO software to crawl remodeler websites using factors believed to determine a website’s position in search engine results. In addition, we also did a qualitative analysis of well-known strategies for establishing trust and credibility online—a necessity for turning website visitors into leads and customers.
While there were many insights to be gained from our analysis (which we’re currently working on turning into a white paper for you!), the video statistics stood out to me. Only 20% of remodelers had video content on their website’s homepage, and only 30% had video content on their subpages.
Out of curiosity, I looked at our 2013 remodeler site crawl to see if these numbers have at least improved from the year before. They hadn’t!
Why Remodelers Need Web Videos
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video might be worth a million. Did you know that:
- Half of consumers who watch online product videos say it helps them make more confident purchasing decisions.
- People who watch videos stay on a site two minutes longer on average and are 64 percent more likely to make a purchase.
- Web video traffic is expected to rise to 69 percent of all consumer internet traffic in 2017.
- Studies show that web pages with videos have significantly higher average time on site than those without videos.
- Google likes to display a variety of media in its search results, making videos more likely to rank than plain text pages.
- Next to Google, YouTube is the second largest search engine out there. Get on it!
- Videos allow you to drive branding and build trust. They’re like a commercial—just cheaper.
Let me elaborate a little bit on that last point. The web makes it super easy for consumers to find remodeling contractors online, but the problem is, pretty much anyone can make a website. Consumers have to be skeptical about what they read and purchase online.
So what can you do to make your remodeling website more credible? Create a video that walks customers through your showroom, company history, previous projects, and testimonials.
Here’s some inspiration to get you started:
Remodeler Web Video Ideas
Quality Craftsmen in Atlanta, GA has not one but six videos on their homepage. The videos feature owner Zett Quinn interviewing customers in their homes about their projects. The concept is super simple, but the impact is enormous. You get to meet the owner, hear from happy customers, and see projects all at the same time!
Jeb Design/Build in Shreveport, LA also features a lot of video content on their website. Before/after photos are a must on remodeling websites, but Jeb Design/Build takes this a step further with before/after videos, where President Jeb Breithaupt walks you through and highlights their bath, kitchen, and patio remodeling projects. You know what else I love? They draw your attention to their videos with their site design:
Washington, DC remodeling company Superior Home Services, Inc. does things a little differently. Instead of having someone talk at you, they play a slideshow of their projects as well as text with their top eight reasons for choosing Superior Home Services, Inc. There’s also a catchy, upbeat track in the background. Very smooth, guys! This type of video is ideal if you don’t have someone or want to hire someone to actually shoot film footage for you—the entire video is made of slides and photos.
Okay—and now for my favorite remodeler video I’ve seen. The award goes to Yankee Home Improvement in Northampton, MA. The first thing you’ll probably notice when you watch it is that these guys have got charisma. I wasn’t exactly rolling on the floor laughing, but it was definitely the funniest remodeler video I’ve seen (so far). It’s memorable—I’ve watched a lot of remodeler videos and this one definitely made an impression. Overall, I’m impressed that Yankee Home Improvement was able to make me fall in love with their company in a minute and a half. Just watch it—you’ll see what I mean.
