Advanced Marketing With Houzz Pro+
I’ve written about what Houzz is and why you should be using it. I’ve written about the differences between Houzz and Pinterest. And I’ve written tips on how to use Houzz as a business. In this post, I’m going to take it a step further and talk about Houzz Pro+.
What is Houzz Pro+ and should you be on it?
3 Reasons to Become a Houzz Pro+ Member
Houzz Pro+ is an “advanced” membership for businesses who want to better build their brand online, outside of their website (and offsite SEO is just as important as onsite). This program isn’t free, but it’s advantageous in a number of ways!
With a Pro+ Houzz membership, you can:
Increase your visibility
You are more exposed to Houzz users if you’re paying for the service. Homeowners searching for, say, home remodelers in {your service area} are more likely to see your profile. Houzz lists a number of professionals on each results page. Under Houzz Pro+, 10 of those spots are reserved for Pro+ members.
Not only do you get enhanced placement in the pro directory, but you also get sponsored photos/exposure on other results pages. For example, if a user is looking through the photos on Houzz, you may show up on the bottom of the page. When I logged in and starting browsing the photos, I saw these two firms:
Choose Multiple Categories & Service Areas
Any business can sign up on Houzz and create a profile. They get to choose a category that best describes their company—landscape contractors, home builders, etc. But with the Pro+ program, you can list your business in more than one category or location.
This is especially beneficial for those companies that fit more than one category and want to be found for both (such as “design-build firms” and “kitchen & bath designers”) and/or serve multiple locations.
Get Insights About Your Profile
Houzz Pro+ members not only get more exposure but can actually see how their profiles and pictures are performing! The Pro+ Dashboard provides some awesome insights into how Houzz users are interacting with your profile and photos.
The “promoted” data is what you’ll want to focus on—this indicates users who are in the target market you have specified (“organic” includes users from anywhere in the world). You can see:
- How many times your profile or pictures have shown up in results (impressions)
- How many times people have clicked on your profile or pictures (clicks)
- How many times your pictures have been added to users’ ideabooks
You can filter the date range and view the data for the last 30 days, the last 90 days, and the last year.
Stats can even be broken down by specific photos.
Houzz professionals recommend changing your cover/profile photo every three months or so—using the ones that get the most impressions. This can make your profile more appealing and “clickable.”
Seeing which pictures are the most popular can also boost your onsite SEO efforts. For instance, if you find that one particular photo keeps getting clicked and added to users’ ideabooks, perhaps you can make it more prominent on your website to help improve your conversion rate.
