Are Fried Chicken Oreos Real?
Did you know that Oreo cookies are vegan? Well, at least the traditional Oreos are. I can’t say the same thing for sure about Fried Chicken Oreos.
A picture of limited edition Fried Chicken Oreos has been circulating its way around the Internet, causing cookie-lovers and meat-lovers all over the world to wonder if this is all just a cruel publicity stunt or if our savory dessert prayers have been answered.
Let’s look at the facts—Oreo has released some spunky flavored Oreos over the years, from the heavenly Marshmallow Crispy Oreos to the questionable Watermelon-flavored cookies. In my opinion, a savory-flavored Oreo is long overdue! Plus, fried chicken seems like a logical choice.
This greasy, crispy delicacy has long been paired with the sweet flavors of waffles and syrup, which Lay’s capitalized on just last year with its limited edition Chicken and Waffles-flavored chips.
You know what I’m NOT going to do if Fried Chicken Oreos are real? I’m NOT going to dunk those suckers in milk. Aw hell no, those meat-flavored cookies are getting dunked in maple syrup. And if Oreo ever happens to release a meat loaf Oreo, I’m dunking that shit in gravy.
What Do Fried Chicken Oreos Have to Do with Online Marketing?
In case you didn’t notice, this is an online marketing blog. When my coworker Jake first sent me a picture of Fried Chicken Oreos, I immediately searched, “are fried chicken oreos real?”
This picture is only going to continue to circulate, and more and more people are going to search that phrase. I want in on some of that search traffic. Not because it’s going to be qualified—the middle schoolers searching that phrase probably don’t need online marketing services—but because today’s lesson is about a little something called newsjacking.
According to David Meerman Scott, who coined the term, “Newsjacking is the art and science of injecting your ideas into a breaking news story and generating tons of media coverage and social media engagement.”
Of course, newsjacking works best when the breaking news pertains to your industry. For example, some of my best-trafficked blog posts are ones I’ve written post-Google algorithm updated geared towards business owners wondering why their site traffic is down. The news here is that Google has updated its algorithm, and the impact it has on the online marketing industry is easy to see.
This type of newsjacking is especially helpful because there’s a good chance the traffic this type of blog post brings in will be qualified. I usually slap a good ol’ call to action at the end of those blog posts that says something like, “If you think your site’s been impacted by the latest Google algorithm update, Blue Corona can help! Contact us today. If you tell them Lexie sent you, I’ll send you a complimentary package of Fried Chicken Oreos (should it turn out they exist).”
Blue Corona has experience newsjacking for a number of industries, including but not limited to:
- HVAC
- Plumbing
- Fire protection
- Restoration
- Remodeling
- Electrical
- And more
Of course, if you’re just here because of the Oreos, that’s okay, too. Send me a tweet if you find out where you can buy them.
