How Important Are Videos for Successful SEO?
If you do a random search right now in Google (go ahead, do it), I’m betting at least one video shows up amongst the organic listings. I typed in “Harry Potter” (it was on TV all weekend…sorry not sorry) and yes, there was a video near the top of the page. Then, completely switching gears, I typed in “is my toilet broken” (not as fun as Harry Potter, but probably more relevant to your business!), and yes, there was a YouTube video—How to Fix or Replace a Toilet Handle / Flush Lever—in the 5th spot.
Did your search return a video result? Chances are it did, which brings me to the point of this blog post (and answer to your question about the importance of video for SEO)! We get a lot of questions about videos, which is understandable. Videos have claimed a very large spot in the digital marketing realm—from traditional SEO (real estate in organic search) to social media and brand awareness. But just how important are they? Let’s get right down to it.
How Important Are Videos for SEO?
Videos are important for SEO and wider digital marketing success. While we wouldn’t say your SEO will suffer if you don’t have—or start shooting—videos to use, just know that more than one of your competitors is taking advantage of video marketing. There are many, many benefits of videos for SEO and digital marketing in general. Get a load of some of these stats!
- Half of consumers who watch online product videos say it helps them make more confident purchasing decisions.
- People who watch videos stay on a site two minutes longer on average and are 64 percent more likely to make a purchase.
- Web video traffic is expected to rise to 69 percent of all consumer internet traffic in 2017.
- Studies show that web pages with videos have significantly higher average time on site than those without videos.
- Next to Google, YouTube is the second largest search engine out there.
- Videos allow you to drive branding and build trust. They’re like a commercial—just cheaper.
- And all these.
If you haven’t read the Blue Corona blog or talked to one of our team members, I’ll say this for you now: the digital marketing landscape is (always) changing. What worked five years ago isn’t as relevant today, and what’s winning today probably won’t matter as much five years down the road. SEO should be part of a larger marketing strategy—and videos can help bolster those strategies as well, especially social. Social video marketing can actually impact your sales (seriously, read the blog post!).
